Sheffield is a vibrant, green and ambitious city (‘The Outdoor City’) which has seen significant investment and regeneration in recent years, and this is set to continue.
To help us realise our ambitions for growth, to drive up the quality of new development and to be a net zero carbon city by 2030, we are seeking an enthusiastic Planning Officer with at least three years’ experience of dealing with a broad range of planning applications to join our busy but friendly Development Management Service.
With a recognised RTPI accredited planning qualification, you will have an excellent working knowledge of current planning legislation and an awareness of ongoing legislative changes and their implications. You should be able to demonstrate a good track record in the management of a substantial caseload of applications to agreed targets, and use your excellent analytical, verbal and written communication skills to achieve quality outcomes.
Sheffield is a varied city, recognised for its advanced manufacturing, specialist steels and forged products, Victorian suburbs, trees, parks and extensive areas of Green Belt, and you will deal with a wide-ranging caseload of applications in a supportive environment. Confidence in negotiation, the ability to foster robust working relationships, and strong analytical skills are all essential for this position. You will be an enthusiastic and committed individual, who has the ability to deliver in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
The Planning Service is located in the city centre, close to the award-winning Peace Gardens, Winter Garden and ‘Heart of the City’ regeneration project.
Other benefits include:
1. Annual Leave (25 days, increasing to 30 days after 5 years’ service)
2. Automatic incremental salary progression within your grade each year
3. Local Government pension scheme.
4. Flexible working with at least 40% of your time based in the office with your team.
5. Flexi scheme with the ability to have an additional day off per month.
