Training Programme Director - General Psychiatry
Within NHS England, South East Region, the Wessex Local Office is responsible for the planning, development, education, and training of the healthcare and public health workforce across Dorset, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, and Salisbury.
An opportunity has arisen for a Consultant with a strong interest in medical education and training to be the Training Programme Director in General Psychiatry.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall delivery of the General Psychiatry training programme. The role involves working with the Head of School to lead various functions aligned with NHS England mandates.
Main duties of the job
The Training Programme Director will focus on improving learner supervision, assessment, and experience, engaging faculty, and ensuring effective educational outcomes. The role is evolving to also focus on workforce transformation and developing multi-professional links.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced NHS Consultant with a thorough understanding of (specialty) training across the region, possessing strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a multi-professional team.

Job responsibilities
The role includes a fixed funding contribution of £10,000 per annum as an Educational Management Contribution (EMC), with 0.75 EMC allocated for this position. EMCs typically correspond to PAs for job planning but are fixed and may not match your personal salary or planned activities.
Applicants should discuss this role with their local Director of Medical Education to ensure it functions as a secondment with time allocated in their job plan. The trust will backfill clinical time accordingly. Support will be confirmed at the interview stage, and a reference from the Trust Director of Medical Education will be required.

Qualifications
* Primary clinical healthcare qualification
* Fellowship of College/Faculty
* Attendance at educational development courses
Employment/Experience
* Experience working with learners or doctors in training
* Leadership and innovation in clinical and educational settings, managing multi-professional teams
* Proven track record in service and education delivery
* Understanding of developments involving relevant Colleges/Faculties and NHS professional bodies
* Knowledge of workforce transformation initiatives
* Recent experience in recruitment, selection, and E&D within the last 3 years
* Active involvement in appraisal processes
* Knowledge of NHS structures, processes, and educational context
* For doctors, a valid license to practice
* Previous or current leadership role in healthcare education
