Lead Commissioning Engineer - Energy from Waste
Location: Cheshire
Full-time / Monday - Friday
We are seeking a highly skilled Lead Commissioning Engineer to oversee the commissioning phase of a large-scale Energy from Waste (EfW) facility. This role is critical to ensuring the safe, efficient, and timely transition from construction to full operational readiness. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, coordinate with contractors and stakeholders, and ensure all systems are tested, validated, and handed over in accordance with project specifications and regulatory standards.
Responsibilities
* Lead the planning, execution, and documentation of commissioning activities across mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
* Develop and manage commissioning schedules, procedures, and risk assessments.
* Interface with EPC contractors, OEMs, and client representatives to ensure alignment on commissioning strategy and milestones.
* Supervise functional testing, performance verification, and troubleshooting of plant systems including boilers, turbines, flue gas treatment, and auxiliary equipment.
* Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards throughout commissioning.
* Manage punch lists, system handovers, and final acceptance documentation.
* Provide technical leadership and mentoring to commissioning engineers and technicians.
* Report progress, issues, and KPIs to project management and senior stakeholders.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Process Engineering (or equivalent).
* Proven experience in commissioning large industrial or energy facilities, ideally within EfW, power generation, or process industries.
* Strong understanding of process control systems, instrumentation, and safety systems.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and coordination skills.
* Familiarity with commissioning software, documentation standards, and regulatory frameworks.
* Ability to work under pressure and adapt to evolving project demands.
