Overview
Principal Transport Planner role at WSP. This position can be based in the Midlands, Northern England or Scotland regions. Eligible offices include Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester or Newcastle with hybrid working (a mix of in-office and remote work).
What you will do
* Work alongside colleagues across the UK to deliver Transport and Traffic related projects for Infrastructure projects including Development Consent Orders in the Energy and Industrial sectors.
* Undertake Transport Statements, Transport Assessments, Environmental Statement Transport Chapters, and Travel Plans, including participating in client and Local Authority scoping discussions.
* Lead technical discussions around accessibility of projects/construction sites for multiple modes and articulate impacts and mitigations to support planning approvals.
* Collaborate in a multi-disciplinary environment with teams such as noise, air quality, ecology, and highways.
* Take ownership of delegated tasks such as preparing fee estimates and proposals for review by Project Directors.
* Be flexible and upskill to work across other transport workstreams (e.g., communications and engagement) to support a sustainable workflow for the local team.
* Represent WSP values in a collaborative client/consultant environment while delivering work for clients.
* Keep up-to-date with relevant standards and policies; network and attend conferences to raise WSP profile.
* Ensure projects are delivered to budget, on programme, and to required technical standards.
* Provide mentoring and/or line management for developing professionals.

What we will be looking for you to demonstrate
* Experience as lead author of Scoping Reports, Transport Assessments and Environmental Statement Transport Chapters.
* Experience delivering a wide range of transport planning projects across areas such as development planning, energy/industrial sectors, highway schemes, sustainable transport, active travel, and junction design; knowledge of relevant standards.
* Experience in preparing Local Authority Transport Plans and Strategies; experience in transport feasibility studies, option assessment reports, and inputs into transport-related business cases.
* Strong numerical, spatial, and analytical skills and excellent working knowledge of MS Office tools.
* Ability to produce project reports and technical documents to a high standard, and to communicate technical arguments to both technical and non-technical audiences.
* Knowledge of current transport policy at sub-regional, regional, and national levels.
* Working knowledge of the financial and contractual aspects of planning, bidding, and delivering both large and small projects.
