Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Construction Buyer to manage the procurement of materials, plant, and subcontract services across our construction projects. The role requires excellent negotiation skills, a strong knowledge of the UK construction supply chain, and the ability to deliver cost savings while ensuring timely and high-quality supply.
Key Responsibilities
Procurement Management
* Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers for construction materials, plant hire, and subcontract services.
* Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure reliability, quality, and value for money.
* Monitor supplier performance, delivery schedules, and compliance with company standards.
Cost Control
* Obtain and evaluate quotations to achieve cost savings while maintaining quality.
* Prepare and manage procurement budgets, ensuring alignment with project cost plans.
* Report on cost variances and suggest strategies for improved value engineering.
Project Support
* Work closely with project managers, site managers, and quantity surveyors to understand project requirements.
* Ensure materials are delivered to site in line with programme schedules.
* Identify potential risks in the supply chain and implement mitigation measures.
Compliance & Reporting
* Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies, industry standards, and UK regulations.
* Maintain accurate records of orders, contracts, and supplier agreements.
* Provide regular progress and cost reports to senior management.
Skills & Qualifications
* Proven experience as a Buyer/Procurement Specialist in the UK construction industry.
* Strong negotiation and commercial acumen.
* Good knowledge of UK construction materials, suppliers, and subcontractors.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
* Strong IT skills, including MS Office and procurement systems.
Desirable
* CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) qualification or working towards it.
* Experience with ERP/procurement software.
* Knowledge of sustainability practices and modern methods of construction.

Pay: £35,000.00-£49,718.96 per year
