Job Summary
This is an existing post to replace a consultant Rheumatologist at Prince Charles Hospital, within the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board. The post holder will join a dynamic, forward‑looking, innovative medical team, based at Prince Charles Hospital, and will be expected to help develop rheumatology services provided by the Health Board in PCH and across CTMUHB as part of a wider integrated team. About the Service
We are part of NHS Wales and provide primary, secondary and community health and wellbeing services to approximately 500,000 people in Bridgend, Merthyr Tydfil, and Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Core Duties
* Lead routine rheumatology outpatient clinics (8–10 new patients, 30–34 follow‑ups per clinic, 4–5 clinics per week). The department typically manages around 500 new and 4000 follow‑up outpatients annually.
* Support inpatient care via referrals, in partnership with the Department of General Medicine. No dedicated rheumatology inpatient beds exist.
* Provide and develop outpatient osteoporosis and DXA services.
* Coordinate day‑unit treatments at Dewi Sant Hospital and on‑site urgent day‑unit facilities.
* Collaborate closely with physiotherapy and occupational therapy for multidisciplinary care.
* Maintain responsibility for patient care under your remit, delegating appropriately and training staff.
* Lead and support junior medical staff in day‑to‑day clinical activities.
* Ensure the department functions in line with the Health Board’s operational and strategic plans.
Qualifications & Person Specification
* Essential: Specialist Register with GMC in Rheumatology or eligibility for CCT within 6 months, or GMC registration via recognized European specialist qualification. Licensed to practice.
* Leadership: Demonstrated effective leadership and responsibility.
* Teaching: Evidence of teaching and training post‑graduate or undergraduate staff.
* Desirable: Experience or training in improvement science, medical education qualifications, and research involvement.
* Welsh language level 3 (B1) speaking/listening is desirable but not essential.
