Job Summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Infection Prevention and Control Team (IPCT) - We are looking for an enthusiastic, proactive, motivated and/or experienced infection prevention & control nurse to take up a post within our IPCT. This would be an ideal opportunity for a dynamic, confident, and highly motivated nurse wishing to further their career in a specialist and pivotal field within healthcare. The role is interesting and tasks include daily patient ward rounds, providing proactive advice to patients/staff/visitors, problem solving, undertaking audits, infection surveillance, outbreak management and teaching. This post requires travelling to other trust premises and therefore candidates must be able to get around the trust sites in a timely and efficient manner. You must have enthusiasm to continue professional self-development and development of others. You will need to demonstrate your expertise and the contribution you can make to building a team, maintaining and improving trust infection rates and leading the trust forward as a centre of world class care.


About Us

Responsibilities

The post holder will work closely with the Trusts multi‑disciplinary teams supporting infection prevention and control practices across departments. This will include providing IPC advice and supporting the IPCT leadership in reviewing and implementing changes in practice. The post holder will support the IPCT in the development and implementation of local and national infection prevention and control policies and initiatives, decontamination, surveillance, outbreak investigation and clinical audit. Clinical responsibilities include providing clinical expertise to clinical areas when patients are identified with healthcare‑acquired or communicable infections, supporting clinical areas to maintain biosecurity measures, maintaining a clinical visibility at ward and departmental level, ensuring safe evidence‑based practices through audit and feedback, improving quality and safety by participating in the development and implementation of robust policies and guidelines, supporting the collection and communication of data for surveillance, compiling reports, providing specialist advice to manage incidents and outbreaks, improving quality and safety through improvement methodologies, evaluating decontamination processes, monitoring product purchasing, supporting audit programmes and environmental audits, working with ward staff to manage an inpatients caseload with alert organisms, fostering good interdepartmental relationships, representing the IPCT at meetings, and being flexible across hours of work in the unlikely event of a significant outbreak.

Leadership tasks include providing specialist advice and clinical support to clinical teams, fostering professional relationships, influencing improvement, designing and monitoring services, supporting the Infection Control Nursing Team, developing knowledge and skills, participating in learning environments, representing the IPCT at conferences, and assisting in the development of an Infection Prevention and Control Link Worker.

Education responsibilities involve developing own knowledge, participating in learning environments, representing the IPCT at meetings and conferences, facilitating learning, and assisting in development and evaluation of a link worker.

Research and audit tasks include applying evidence, participating in data capture for surveillance, supporting the Lead Nurse, sharing best practice, and assisting in development and evaluation of policies and procedures.

Communication & working relationships involve working across organisational and professional boundaries as part of the multidisciplinary team.

Essential Qualifications

* RN/Current NMC registration
* Degree or equivalent level of education or experience
* Evidence of current professional development
* Teaching and assessing certificate


Desirable Qualifications

* Certificate or diploma in Infection Prevention & Control


Essential Experience

* Demonstrable interest and knowledge in infection prevention and control issues.


Desirable Experience

* Experience of participation in clinical audit and research.
* Experience of involvement in quality improvement.
