Job purpose The Product Inspection group is responsible for supporting internal and external customers in the development and manufacturing of current and future diesel and hydrogen products. This includes quality inspection and measurement using a wide range of analytical and metrology techniques including 3D optical surface scanner, contact surface roughness profilometry, manual and digital microscopes. The student will have opportunities to work on customer related projects and support innovative research using state-of-the-art measurement technologies and facilities. Key responsibilities Component preparation and inspection using manual and digital microscopes. Dimensional and surface inspection using contact and optical measurement systems. Record test data, analyse results, produce detailed inspection report and communicate technical information effectively with internal and external customers. Support inspection method and measurement process development. Equipment calibration and maintenance. To conduct literature reviews and provide appropriate summaries. Technical assistance to the inspection team and product engineering team functions. What we're looking for SKILLS Mandatory: Some understanding of metrology, quality and inspection. Good interest in measurement science. Ability to apply the skills and knowledge learnt on course to date. Good personal and presentation skills, to enable liaison with internal and external customers. Ability to work methodically and take initiative in improving established processes. Analytical and problem-solving skills, self-motivated and able to plan and manage own projects. Good organisational skills. - managing multiple projects at once. Current IT knowledge of MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point. Good written and spoken fluency in English. Desirable: Able to operate effectively in a multi-national multi-lingual project environment. Ability to work under pressure and manage several tasks at once. Experience of using MATLAB is desirable but not essential. QUALIFICATIONS/EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE Mandatory: Working towards a Degree (or equivalent) in Automotive Engineering, Mechanical/ Manufacturing Engineering, Precision Engineering, Metrology or related subject. Holiday: In addition to statutory holiday students receive 25 days paid holiday in a full 12-month calendar period, pro-rata for shorter periods.
