An opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 HCPC registered Clinical Scientist to join the Radiotherapy Physics team at Poole Hospital, supporting the treatment planning, QA & dosimetry and brachytherapy sections of the department. Three Truebeams are situated at Poole, with a fourth at our satellite centre in Dorchester. External beam treatment planning is done using Eclipse. The brachytherapy service at Poole Hospital offers treatment for gynaecological (vault and cervix) and prostate (HDR and LDR), with the intention to offer skin and oesophageal treatments in the future. Mosaiq is used throughout the department as the record and verify system. There is also considerable scope for development work; implementing AI Autocontouring and ProKnow facilitated audit of plan quality. The department is a reference site for Sun Nuclear and VisionRT and we are involved in early adoption and development work with both suppliers. Final year STP students are encouraged to apply. Depending on circumstances/project support, we will consider trainees transferring to Poole to complete STP here, with the B7 post commencing once STP is passed. Main duties of the job To participate in the provision and development of all aspects of the Radiotherapy Physics service, working over the full range of areas. To undertake specialist clinical scientific and technical duties within Radiotherapy Physics. The postholder will participate in; on-going quality control and calibration of all radiotherapy and radiotherapy physics equipment. routine provision of all aspects of the radiotherapy treatment planning service. brachytherapy (HDR gynae, HDR prostate, Iodine seed) treatments commissioning and clinical application of new Radiotherapy equipment and techniques. project work developing the service The postholder will also help train STP and PTP trainees, and following development work train other members of the department. If a role or service relocates as part of a planned move, excess mileage will not be reimbursed. Travel from home to the new work base will be classed as a normal commute. Detailed job description and main responsibilities At the level of a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist, the postholder will be responsible for carrying out a range of processes as detailed in the department quality system, ensuring the accuracy of their work. They will be required to carry out audits, investigations and be responsible for reporting their findings. Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Expecting to complete Radiotherapy Physics STP this calendar year Good (1st or 2nd class) Honours degree in Physics or other relevant subject HCPC registration as a clinical scientist or working to achieve this within the next 6 months Experience Essential criteria Experience in radiotherapy treatment planning systems and their application Knowledge and experience in machine quality control and dosimetry in radiotherapy Able to teach and train groups of other professional staff on highly complex subjects Desirable criteria Experience in performing physics tasks relating to brachytherapy Experience in teaching/training other staff groups radiotherapy physics topics.
