SEMH Teaching Assistant – Primary

We are currently recruiting an SEMH Teaching Assistant to work within a small primary school setting supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs, including those who may display challenging behaviour.
This role is ideal for someone who is calm, resilient, and confident in supporting children who require consistent boundaries, emotional regulation support, and positive behaviour strategies.
The Role
As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will be helping pupils engage with learning, manage emotions, and build positive relationships. You will play a key role in supporting pupils throughout the school day, including during challenging or dysregulated moments.
Key Responsibilities
• Supporting pupils with SEMH needs and associated challenging behaviours
• Using de‑escalation and positive behaviour strategies
• Supporting emotional regulation and social development
• Building positive, trusting relationships with pupils
• Working closely with teaching and support staff
• Contributing to a safe, structured, and nurturing environment
Essential Requirements
• Experience or a strong understanding of SEMH and challenging behaviour
• Calm, patient, and resilient approach
• Ability to respond effectively to dysregulated behaviour
• Confident working on a 1:1 basis
• Able to work as part of a team
• Available full time and committed to a long‑term role
Desirable
• Previous experience in an SEMH, SEN, or specialist setting
• Team Teach trained, or willingness to train

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
