Overview
The Surgical First Assistant plays a crucial role in the operating theatre, providing support to the surgical team during procedures. This position requires a deep understanding of surgical techniques, patient care, and anatomy. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge of medical terminology, aseptic techniques, and infection control protocols. The Surgical First Assistant will work closely with surgeons and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
* Assist the surgeon during surgical procedures by providing direct support and ensuring a sterile environment.
* Prepare and maintain surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring they are in proper working order.
* Monitor patient vital signs and assist in maintaining patient safety throughout the procedure.
* Collaborate with the surgical team to develop and implement effective patient care plans.
* Perform tasks such as suturing, dressing wounds, and managing post-operative care under the supervision of the surgeon.
* Adhere to infection control protocols and aseptic techniques to minimise the risk of complications.
* Document all relevant information accurately in patient records.
Qualifications
* Proven experience in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) or critical care setting is highly desirable.
* Background in paediatrics is an advantage but not mandatory.
* Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and medical terminology is essential.
* Familiarity with infection control practices and basic life support techniques.
* Excellent analytical skills to assess patient conditions and respond appropriately during procedures.
* Previous hospital experience is preferred, demonstrating a commitment to patient care and safety.
