Group Chief Executive

The closing date is 23 April 2026

To apply, please send a covering letter detailing your suitability for the role and a CV to Helen Marks, interim Senior HR Consultant at helen.marks3@nhs.net.

Our Group is one of the largest in the NHS, with a budget of over £1.6 billion, employing 19,000 staff. It is made up of two large Trusts: Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) and Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG), and we are committed to delivering world‑class services for the 1,500,000 people we serve.

Our five main hospital sites are Castle Hill Hospital; Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital; Goole and District Hospital; Hull Royal Infirmary and Scunthorpe General Hospital. We deliver a wide range of community services across North and North East Lincolnshire, including district nursing, physiotherapy, psychology, podiatry and specialist dental services.

We see over a million patients every year with around 356,700 attendances at our emergency departments, 155,000 hospital admissions and more than 1.3 million outpatient appointments. We deliver around 8,100 babies each year and our community services provide vital healthcare to patients in their own homes.

Main duties of the job

We are currently seeking to appoint a substantive Group Chief Executive who will lead both Trusts and continue to drive improvement, building on the work already underway to address long‑standing challenges and support progress from the organisation's current position within the NHS National Oversight Framework to a more positive and sustainable footing.

Since last summer, a clinically led approach has brought greater clarity to a number of long‑standing and interconnected challenges that have developed over several years. This work has been captured in the organisation's recently developed clinically led improvement plan, which sets out clear priorities and actions to address these issues.

The successful candidate must already be working at Chief Executive level for a large NHS provider and will be responsible for driving forward delivery of this plan, working closely with clinicians and system partners to embed sustainable improvement and strengthen the quality and reliability of care.
