An opportunity has arisen for an experienced psychiatrist (Consultants or SAS) to become a Lead Psychiatrist (LP) and work as part of the collective leadership team in the South Care Group (NYY & S). This role aims to ensure effective and safe patient care delivered in a person-centred manner, with decision-making as close to the patient as possible.
Applicants with experience in Adult, Older People, Children and Young People, Learning Disability, and Autism services are welcome to apply. The substantive clinical base of the successful candidate will depend on their specialty and vacant posts at the time of interview. The weekly job plan will be discussed individually and can be flexibly adapted.
The following role is for AMH (Planned Care) - 1 position, 1.5 PA. Please note that the framework for PAs is under review and may change.
Main duties of the job
The Lead Psychiatrist will demonstrate the Trust values at all times, working as part of the collective leadership team to ensure the effectiveness and safety of patient care in a patient-centred manner, with decision-making as close to the patient as possible.
They will work within a service tier level of the care group model as part of a collective leadership team (CLT), aligning with organisational requirements, influencing operational management and clinical pathways, and sharing accountability for service quality. They will be the professional lead for doctors within their service, responsible for standards of medical practice across inpatient and community teams, and lead on quality and safety developments.
The Lead Psychiatrist and CLT will provide a visible, accessible, and authoritative presence in clinical areas to ensure high standards of care.
The post holder will provide professional advice on medical matters, lead the medical workforce in their specialty, ensure ongoing professional development, and establish accessible clinical supervision practices for all doctors.

The Lead Psychiatrist will uphold Trust values, work within the CLT, influence operational and clinical pathways, and be responsible for medical standards and quality developments. They will be a visible leader in clinical areas and provide medical advice, workforce leadership, and ensure compliance with governance frameworks. They will also manage relationships with the Medical Directorate concerning workforce planning and performance management, participate in governance groups, and oversee clinical supervision and job planning.

* Medical Degree
* Current GMC registration or equivalent
* Evidence of ongoing professional development
Desirable Qualifications
* Management and leadership training
* Postgraduate qualifications in leadership or education
* Certified Leader status
* Specialist register registration
Experience
Essential experience includes at least 1 year at consultant level or 12 years postgraduate service for SAS doctors, experience in relevant specialty, leadership within multidisciplinary teams, collaboration with external agencies, teaching, and awareness of quality and governance initiatives.
Desirable experience includes 18 months at consultant level, strategic management, participation in quality initiatives, policy development, organizational change leadership, external representation, and managing complex HR and financial issues.
