We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Controls Analyst to join our Risk team. This individual will be responsible for designing, implementing, testing, and monitoring internal controls across key risk domains including operational, regulatory, financial, and IT. The role will support both day-to-day controls management & strategic projects.
This role has been specifically designed as a preparatory role for future progression into a Risk Manager position.

Key Responsibilities
• Design and maintain the internal control framework in line with business and regulatory requirements (e.g., FCA).
• Assist the Risk Oversight Manager in implementing and maintaining the organisation’s risk management framework, ensuring consistent application across all business units
• Collaborate with first-line teams to ensure appropriate control design and operation.
• Perform control testing, walkthroughs, and control effectiveness assessments.
• Track and report control issues, including remediation plans and timelines.
• Support risk and control self-assessments (RCSAs), control libraries, and risk event analysis.
• Liaise with internal and external audit and ensure timely resolution of control findings.
• Maintain controls documentation within the Protecht system of record.
• Help embed a controls culture across FGFS through training and engagement.

• Previous experience in a control, risk, audit, or compliance role (ideally within financial services).
• Strong understanding of internal control frameworks.
• Working knowledge of FCA regulatory requirements and expectations.
• Ability to assess control design and operating effectiveness.
• Experience with Protecht risk management is desirable.
• Strong analytical, communication, and influencing skills.
• Self-starter with a collaborative and pragmatic mindset.
Desirable Qualifications:
• Degree in Risk Management, Accounting, Finance, or similar field.
• Control-related qualifications (e.g., ICA, IIA, CRMA, CISA).

What’s next?

If successful we anticipate two further interview stages with the Hiring Manager/wider team which will be more technically focussed and could include a presentation/task so we can see your skills in action.
