Our client, a Local Authority based in the South-West, is currently recruiting for an Education Lawyer on a 3 month locum contract .
The position is due to start immediately on a full-time basis, but they are also open to part-time applicants. The hourly rate is circa £55 p/hour via an Umbrella company, but this can be negotiable based on experience and expectations.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor or suitably qualified Legal Executive, and have significant experience within Education law.
Duties will include (but are not limited to):
Providing expert legal advice, representation, and case management on matters relating to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Supporting the Council's statutory duties under the Children and Families Act 2014 and related legislation, ensuring lawful, fair, and effective decision-making in the best interests of children and young people
Completing weekly case management with Senior Assessment Officers holding tribunal and mediation casework, supporting and advising on key decisions
Triaging tribunal and mediation casework
Holding most complex tribunal cases - preparing and attending hearings
Providing advice and support across wider SEND team and delivering training
Compiling quality assuring bundles
Experience required:
Experience required in Local Government
Experience with complex Education/SEN legal matters
