Overview
Are you passionate about protecting tenants’ rights and undertaking impactful enforcement work in the private rented sector? We are seeking Tenancy Enforcement Officers dedicated to protecting tenants’ rights to join a new team in the Environmental Health team within Regulatory services.
The Renters’ Rights Act introduces the biggest transformation of tenancy law in a generation. The successful candidates will play a key role in case investigations and enforcing new statutory duties, including enhanced protections against unlawful eviction, harassment and unfair rent increases. You will undertake investigations and gather evidence for enforcement actions
Your background will be in tenancy law and the new role will work closely with Housing Enforcement Officers to tackle criminal landlords, poor standards, unlawful eviction, harassment and poor tenancy terms.

About the role
As a Tenancy Enforcement Officer, you will undertake formal investigations into potential breaches of landlord and tenant legislation. You will gather robust evidence and work with others in the team to prepare legal documentation and support enforcement action including prosecutions, civil penalties and rent repayment orders.
You’ll be a trusted source of advice to tenants, landlords and professional partners, helping resolve complex issues, supporting compliance and contributing to a fair, well-regulated private rented sector.
Key Responsibilities
1. Undertake investigations under the Protection from Eviction Act, Housing Acts and Renters Rights Act.
2. Collect evidence in line with PACE for enforcement actions including prosecutions, civil penalties, and court applications.
3. Provide advice to internal and external stakeholders.
4. Ensure service delivery meets statutory obligations and performance targets.
5. Promote awareness of tenancy rights and obligations through effective communication and engagement activities.
