Job Summary
Lead the implementation of the Environment Agency’s Risk Management Framework, driving a programme that strengthens risk culture across the organisation. In this senior role you will collaborate with leaders at all levels, providing expert advice, reporting, and coaching to embed effective risk practices.
Responsibilities
* Champion and maintain the Risk Management Framework, ensuring alignment with HM Treasury’s Orange Book and organisational needs.
* Lead the rollout of consistent risk management processes across the Agency.
* Deliver an annual programme of activities to embed good risk practices and a proactive risk culture.
* Provide senior leaders with clear, insightful reporting to support strategic decision‑making.
* Build trusted relationships across teams, offering expert advice and constructive challenge.
* Collaborate with functions such as health & safety and programme management to integrate risk into all projects.
* Coach and support team members, fostering growth and confidence in risk delivery.
* Respond to incidents as required, with incident role training and additional remuneration.
Qualifications
* Extensive experience leading risk management initiatives in a complex, fast‑paced environment.
* Comprehensive understanding of the Orange Book, risk governance, assurance and related principles.
* Proven track record of embedding risk practices through collaborative working and delivery via others.
* Excellent written and verbal communication, with senior‑level engagement experience.
* Strong, trusted relationships across all levels, challenging firmly and constructively.
* Ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances, managing competing priorities.
* Risk management qualification or relevant professional membership (e.g. IRM Cert) preferred.
Additional Information
This is a hybrid, full‑time role based at any Environment Agency office. Some travel will be required to attend national meetings, with overnight stays possible.
