The What...
This role is a 6-month fixed-term contract reporting to the Group Financial Controller, working closely with the CFO, the Director of Group Finance, and the management accounts team.
The Group Financial Accountant plays a pivotal role in the finance team. Responsibilities include preparing monthly management accounts, half-year and annual statutory accounts, dealing with external audit queries, preparing quarterly VAT returns, and the monthly internal board pack. You will work with the finance team and wider business to ensure effective controls around operational finance activities, and review and approve quarterly balance sheet reconciliations.
Here's some of what you'll be doing:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
* Maintain an up-to-date understanding of IFRS standards.
* Manage all financial accounting information, ensuring accuracy and timely production in line with standards.
* Prepare statutory accounts under IFRS, including IFRS 16, and maintain the fixed asset register.
* Produce the monthly board pack.
* Act as main contact for half-year and year-end audits, liaising with auditors.
* Investigate new standards and report their impact on the business.
* Collaborate with the management accounts team for accurate month-end reporting.
* Support month-end closing activities with analysis and participate in P&L review meetings.
Controllership
* Oversee and review balance sheet reconciliations quarterly.
* Ensure source documentation is authorized per controls.
* Work with business leaders to ensure adherence to financial controls.
* Ensure financial systems and controls meet business needs and are well documented.
* Update finance policies and internal controls.
* Implement continuous improvement policies.
Taxes
* Understand corporation tax and VAT processes.
* Produce corporation tax computations with external advisors and ensure timely submission of returns.
* Prepare capital allowances information and ensure deductions are claimed.
* Prepare corporate tax provisions and deferred tax reports.
* Prepare VAT returns and ensure timely payments.
To be successful, you'll have:
* Experience working in a multi-site, international business.
* Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA).
* Proven financial accounting skills.
* Proactive and use your initiative.
* Attention to detail.
* Strong Excel skills.
* Good communication skills to work across all business areas.
* Analytical mindset, capable of handling multiple tasks and problem-solving.
* Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
* Excellent organizational skills.
* Self-starter and team player.
