Job Summary
Applications are invited for a Consultant Neurophysiologist post across South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust. The post is offered on a 10PA basis; LTFT applications will be considered. The department provides a comprehensive range of neurophysiological diagnostic services for patients of all ages, including the neonatal period, and plays an important role in delivering the 18‑week patient pathway in several major specialties.

Main Duties
* Clinical: Provision and delivery of consultant support to manage patients requiring a range of neurophysiology investigations and diagnostics; performing NCS/EMG studies and writing own reports; supervising and reporting physiologist nerve conduction studies; reporting EEGs, video telemetry recordings, and EP studies; facilitation of discussions and onward referrals; support outpatient services such as EMG/EEG/NCS clinics; active participation in MDT and other meetings necessary to patient care; support development of neurophysiology services across STSFT.
* Administrative: Participation in local and national audit activities; attendance at clinical governance activities/meetings; acting as an educational and clinical supervisor for junior medical staff and physiologists in training; supporting delivery of integrated services as required.
* Research: Participation in existing clinical trials and research; working with the STSFT research and innovation team to assist with recruitment of potential participants into future studies.
Person Specification – Experience
* Have spent either 3 years in Higher Training (or equivalent) or 5 years as a Specialist Registrar (or equivalent).
* Have undertaken additional training in neurophysiology.
* Have experience in training undergraduates and postgraduates.
Person Specification – Desirable
* Have been involved in academic research during training and have both presented and published peer‑reviewed articles.
* Have spent a period of research training in a discipline appropriate to intended practice.
* Have experience within a neurology setting.
* Have received further speciality training in Geriatric and General Medicine to a level equivalent to Calman Level III.
Qualifications
* Essential: Possess MRCP; hold a CCST and/or be on the GMC's Specialist Register, or be within 6 months of being admitted to the GMC's Specialist Register.
* Desirable: Obtain a higher degree by thesis (MD, MCh, MSc).
Skills & Knowledge
* Essential: Management & Leadership skills; ability to work as part of a team.
* Desirable: Awareness of assessment/appraisal.
