Job Summary
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Consultant in Acute Medical Unit to join our team of 10 full‑time colleagues. You will manage patients across the Acute Medicine Unit, Same Day Emergency Care, and Diabetes & Endocrine clinics, working with all specialties and contributing to service development.
Main Duties
As a Lead Consultant, you will be responsible for day‑to‑day clinical governance, review of admissions, coordinating staff rostering and ensuring clinical safety overnight. You will build collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary teams and lead teaching initiatives.
Within AMU
* Specialise in assessment, investigation, diagnosis and management of acute patients.
* Stabilise and manage medical emergencies.
* Lead the Ambulatory Care service.
* Drive service development and improvement initiatives.
Within the Trust
* Liaise with clinicians and leads outside the ED to address emerging issues.
* Participate in teaching programmes across the hospital and the University of East Anglia.
* Serve on the Consultant Staff Committee.
* Deliver 6 Diabetes & Endocrine clinics per month.

Person Specification
Essential
* Full GMC registration and licence to practise
* MRCP or equivalent
* CCT in General Internal, Acute Medicine or related specialty (or within six months of CCT at interview)
* Excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary teamwork skills
* Commitment to service development and junior staff training
* Strong communication and presentation abilities
* Ability to live within 15‑mile radius or 30‑minute travel time of the Trust
* Flexibility in working practices and willingness to work with COVID‑positive patients
* Commitment to the Trust's values
Desirable
* Acute Medicine related diploma, MSc, M.D. or equivalent qualification
* Evidence of teaching courses or ALS certification
* Management experience
* Experience in research or published papers in area of interest
* Experience in critical care medicine or children’s safeguarding
* Good presentation skills
