About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Pavements Manager to join our Materials Engineering team. The role provides expert technical advice and ensures the effective implementation of Main Roads Materials Engineering standards, guidelines, specifications, methods and processes for the design, construction and maintenance of pavements across Western Australia.

In this role you will coordinate and manage geotechnical and materials engineering teams to deliver expert technical advice on ground conditions, slope stability, bridge foundations, pavement design, materials science and pavement surfacing treatments. You will manage research and development of new and alternative products and technologies and lead the development and implementation of updates to guidelines and specifications to support the adoption of appropriate innovations and sustainable materials that offer whole‑of‑life‑cycle benefits.

You will build and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including the materials supply industry, geotechnical design consultants, the road infrastructure construction and maintenance industry, contract and project management teams, and Main Roads asset management, technical services and project delivery managers.


Responsibilities

* Provide strategic geotechnical and pavement advice to inform the planning of future road infrastructure requirements.
* Deliver design review and technical advice to support quality standards in project delivery, investigation and analysis of pavement failures, and selection of appropriate treatments.
* Lead research and development of new and alternative products and technologies.
* Develop and implement updates to guidelines and specifications to promote sustainable materials and whole‑of‑life‑cycle benefits.
* Foster collaboration and teamwork within the materials engineering leadership team.


Qualifications and Experience

* Relevant engineering or materials science degree or equivalent.
* Strong knowledge of pavement design, rehabilitation, construction, maintenance and performance testing.
* Experience in geotechnical and pavement engineering, including slope stability and bridge foundations.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and implement engineering guidelines, specifications and best practices.
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

o Procedures for the design and rehabilitation of pavements with unbound, modified, cemented, asphalt and rigid layers.
o Pavement materials, products and specifications, including natural occurring materials.
o Site investigation and laboratory testing technologies.
o Knowledge of pavement construction, rehabilitation and maintenance practices and processes.
