Overview
Do you have a passion for modelling optical components and/or optical fibers? Do you have an inventive mind, eager to create new concepts and devices that advance cutting-edge frontiers? Would you like to contribute to the production of the next generation of hollow core optical fibers (HCFs), working in a supportive research environment? If these questions resonate with you, then you might be suitable for this role.
We are looking for a motivated senior optical engineer to join Azure Fiber's team of experts who are working on developing the next generation of optical fibers for cloud computing. The ideal candidate will investigate different fiber concepts, design new types of fibers with hollow cores, and develop advanced models to simulate light propagation inside them. The research will aim to develop innovative fiber designs, looking to improve optical performance, mechanical strength and cost efficiency for fibers that will be used in Microsoft Azure global network.
The position will be based in the Southampton (UK) area, between the Microsoft Azure Fiber lab in Romsey and the state-of-the-art cleanroom facility at the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC) at the University of Southampton. The principal optical engineer will have access to world-class resources and expertise in optical fiber research and development, and will have the opportunity and mission to shape the future of optical networking and cloud computing at Microsoft Azure.
