Legal Counsel, Privacy
What you’ll do
* Deliver expert, accurate and cost‑effective legal and operational advice on privacy and client confidentiality, either directly or through others.
* Ensure advice is timely, commercial, proactive, easy for non‑lawyers to understand, and helps manage and minimise legal risk.
* Drive continuous improvement in operating practices and processes, including identifying efficiencies, improvements and cost‑reduction opportunities.
* Communicate internal and external legal advice, and provide legal input on transactions and projects in a commercial, user‑friendly and efficient way.
* Carry out horizon‑scanning activities.
* Own and develop appropriate risk and control frameworks for the franchises and functions to meet their responsibilities.
The skills you’ll need
To join us in this role, you’ll need to be a qualified solicitor or barrister with experience of providing legal privacy advice. You’ll be able to draw on your experience of working with law firms and other professional advisers and have knowledge of current legal privacy issues facing banks.
We’ll also be looking for you to demonstrate
* In‑depth knowledge of privacy and client confidentiality law.
* The ability to build rapport and establish strong relationships, especially with senior colleagues.
* Good commercial awareness, excellent communication, legal research and analytical skills.
* A data protection qualification such as International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
* The ability to use AI tools to aid legal research and analysis.
* Strong PQE within the banking industry.
