The successful Year 1 Teacher will take part in pre-term preparation prior to January 2026, attend induction in January 2026 and start teaching from January 2026 as the Year 1 Teacher. About the role — Year 1 Teacher This Year 1 Teacher will lead phonics, guided reading and carefully sequenced writing units to secure early literacy. The Year 1 Teacher will deliver daily focused maths sessions, design engaging continuous provision and use assessment to personalise learning. The Year 1 Teacher will run targeted interventions, meet families regularly and support transition into KS1 and onwards — tasks the Year 1 Teacher will plan for before January 2026 and deliver from January 2026. Day-to-day for the Year 1 Teacher Mornings: the Year 1 Teacher leads systematic phonics, shared reading and fluency work. Afternoons: the Year 1 Teacher teaches hands-on maths sessions and creative writing projects. The Year 1 Teacher will liaise with teaching assistants, attend phase meetings and be part of curriculum development from January 2026. The Year 1 Teacher will also lead small-group interventions that start during the spring term after January 2026. Professional development for the Year 1 Teacher The Year 1 Teacher will benefit from tailored CPD, mentoring and opportunities to lead small curriculum projects. From induction in January 2026 the Year 1 Teacher will join coaching cycles, peer observations and subject-focused training to enhance classroom practice as the Year 1 Teacher.
