Job Purpose
The Project Engineer (PE) is responsible for the safety, quality, efficiency, and timeliness of the project. The PE works closely with Estimating, Project Management, and Operations, handling diverse roles such as establishing production rates, documenting quantities, maintaining SWPPP documentation, preparing look-ahead agendas, and assisting with submittals and transmittals. Organization, good judgment, and effective communication are essential.
Responsibilities
* Promote safety, quality, efficiency, and core values.
* Assist Project Superintendent and Project Manager with project start-up, management, and close-out, including schedule management, scope review, cost reporting, and documentation.
* Gather data for documentation, working safely around traffic and machinery.
* Understand PO creation, participate in planning meetings, and manage reports on labor and production.
* Be proactive, self-motivated, and a problem solver.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
* Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
Certifications
* OSHA 30 required; must be obtained within first six months.
* EIT and CESSWI are a plus but not required.
Experience
* At least one year in construction or related field, including co-op experience.
Skills and Competencies
* Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software.
* Strong understanding of civil engineering concepts.
* Knowledge of Great Lakes policies and procedures.
* Strong ethics, accuracy, and communication skills.
* Decision-making, problem-solving, adaptability, and emotional intelligence.
* Interpersonal skills, leadership, and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
* Valid Driver’s License required.
Work Conditions
This is a full-time, 40-hour/week position, primarily outdoors, with travel and possible overnight stays. Must meet physical requirements, including lifting, walking on uneven terrain, and working in various weather conditions.
