An exciting opportunityhas arisen to recruit a passionate and enthusiastic Registered Nursewith excellent communication and leadership skills to join our team as a JuniorSister or Charge Nurse on ward E51. E51 is a busy 27 bedded Care of the Elderlyward, within the Directorate of Rehabilitation and Elderly Medicine based atSunderland Royal Hospital. The Junior Sister or Charge Nurse is someone who isexcited by the prospect of supporting the Ward Manager and ward team in thedelivery of high-quality care and continuing improvement of the service. Thisis an exciting and rewarding role, which would be suitable for a candidate withCare of the Elderly experience and a strong track record of workingcollaboratively to maintain and develop safe, effective and compassionateservices. The post holder must be able to demonstrate proactivemultidisciplinary working, possess communication and organisational skills withevidence of a degree qualification or currently be on the degree pathway innursing. Main duties of the job
Youwill be responsible for supporting the Band 7, to provide management supportfor the ward team, which entails managing the Nursing team. This includes, butnot limited to:
Allocation of staff to teams, and ensuring they are working within their levelof competence/skill mix
Working alongside the MDT, to ensure patients receive appropriate care
Liaising with the operational teams, to ensure timely admission, transfer anddischarge of patients
Taking charge in challenging circumstances within the ward, and ensuring thatsupport is always given to junior colleagues
Assisting the Band 7 to ensure appraisals, mandatory training and competencyassessments for all nursing staff are kept up to date
Leading the nursing team in the absence of the ward manager and being a rolemodel, ensuring the environment is maintained to a high standard
Expected todeliver, hands on clinical care to patients, and to assist the ward manager inthe implementation, and delivery of the clinical and non-clinical governanceagenda within the care environment
Ensure that safe, effective and holisticpatient care is delivered, and coordinate patients overall plan of carethroughout the patient journey
Agree own personal development plan withline manager to ensure active revalidation with the NMC Promote excellence innursing care, and demonstrate evidence based best practice

To ensure effective communicationinternally and externally regarding patient care and resources.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree in nursing studies or healthcare related subject or evidence of currently working towards this (UK equivalent).
* Mentorship certificate/ Practice Assessor training or demonstrable equivalent experience
* Management and leadership training.
Knowledge & Skills
* Awareness of national health and social care policy.
* Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism.
* Thorough understanding of expanded roles/professional practice issues.
* Clinical teaching experience.
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
* Able to work without supervision.
* Competent in the use of IT packages.
* Evidence of competency in relation to nursing practices appropriate to the post.
* Understanding of budget and financial control systems
Experience
* Experience as a Band 5.
* Experience of leading a team.
* Evidence of innovation in practice.
* Experience of coordinating a team in caring for patients from admission to discharge
* Expertise within the speciality
* Experience of line management of staff
Physical Skills
* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy
