Overview

The Haematology team is seeking a highly motivated individual who is passionate about nursing and has solid experience to support malignant and some non-malignant haematology conditions. The post holder will work with five haematologists, CNS and cancer support worker colleagues. Possessing strong communication skills to support our shared patients with the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre and other tertiary centres, additionally providing advice and guidance to primary health providers. Applicants will have the ability to work autonomously and should have a flexible approach. Counselling patients with new diagnosis or progression is a pivotal role, onwards coordinating work-up and monitoring treatment response. This role oversees the first point of contact for all Haematology on treatment patients, needing support and intervention to prevent deterioration and coordination of hospital admissions. This post will require you to demonstrate confidence in emergency and non-emergency care with strong leadership skills, experience in SACT & nurse led clinics, role modelling to junior staff. This is a full-time role based at Ashford hospital where the Haematology chemotherapy unit is located, with travel to St Peters for the inpatient reviews, the post offers a unique opportunity to develop and deliver expert clinical and managerial nursing, working as part of a highly skilled team providing expert care within the cancer services team.


Responsibilities

* To promote high standards of specialist care for patients with a haematological malignancy, ensuring a quality experience.
* To provide specialist support and care to patients admitted with complications of their cancer treatment.
* To work autonomously to support patients with a haematological malignancy, facilitating necessary investigations and providing clinical engagement and support for patients receiving SACT.
* Deliver HNA and treatment summary clinics for all patients.
* To be a resource both within the trust and the community for clinical advice and information.
* With the Lead Cancer Nurse contribute to clinical governance within the trust for haematology patients.
* To deliver care in line with National and Alliance guidance and requirements
* Support the development of the band 6 CNS


Qualifications and experience

Essential

* First level degree in related subject or equivalent knowledge, skills and competency gained through clinical experience working at a senior level
* Post-basic qualification in haematology
* SACT certification
* NMC Registration

Desirable

* Advanced communications skills training or prepared to work towards
* Level 2 Psychological Training


Experience

Essential

* Relevant experience at senior Band 6 or above level in Haematology nursing.
* Evidence of advanced communications skills
* Ability to lead and influence change

Desirable

* Previous Band 7 experience


Knowledge

Essential

* Advanced knowledge of Haematological malignancies and SACT.
* Knowledge of cancer performance and standards

Desirable

* Awareness of annual Cancer Patient Satisfaction Survey
* Awareness of PSFU for Haematological malignancies


Skills

Essential

* Effective communication with all service users and with other staff to ensure that care, treatment and support is not compromised
* Ability to hold a clear strategic vision and develop implementation plans to contribute to the development of the service.
