Infrastructure Engineer
An established IT services organisation is seeking a talented Infrastructure Engineer to join their growing team. This business delivers IT Managed Services and infrastructure solutions to clients across the UK, Europe, and APAC, working with a range of private and public sector organisations, with a notable presence in healthcare and regulated sectors.
About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for implementing, managing, and supporting IT infrastructure across a diverse client base. Environments range from traditional three-tier architecture to hyperconverged and multi-tenant cloud platforms. The role demands strong technical expertise, excellent troubleshooting abilities, and a client-focused approach to delivering infrastructure solutions.
Working within a small, highly experienced infrastructure team, the position offers exposure to a wide variety of technologies and opportunities to shadow senior engineers on complex projects. A significant emphasis is placed on high-quality documentation and organisational skills.
This is a hybrid role with flexibility to work from home, at client sites, data centres, or the company’s office in the North West of England. Occasional travel to EMEA and the USA may also be required to support international projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Design and implement infrastructure solutions from an established technology portfolio, while identifying opportunities for innovation where appropriate.
* Produce and maintain clear, high-quality technical documentation.
* Support the delivery of infrastructure projects in collaboration with Project Managers and senior technical staff.
* Act as an escalation point for operational support teams.
* Adhere to incident, change, and information security management processes.
* Continuously develop technical capabilities through training, self-learning, and knowledge sharing.
Essential Skills and Experience
* Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
* Strong experience in both Windows and Linux server administration
* Familiarity with Linux operating systems and open-source technologies (Ubuntu preferred)
* Experience with hardware installation (racking, stacking, cabling)
* Proficiency in virtualisation technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM)
* Experience with enterprise backup solutions (Veeam, Commvault, Nakivo)
* Familiarity with storage technologies (SAN, NAS)
* Proficient with VMware ESXi and vCenter
* Strong understanding of Active Directory, Azure AD, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy
* Excellent problem-solving and documentation skills
* Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels
* Ability to obtain SC and/or NPPV3 security clearance

* Hybrid - 2x days per week in Stockport
Salary:
* Up to £60,000 Basic Per Annum
