As a Specialist Education Support Officer (SESO) for ASCETS (Autism Social Communication Education Training Service) and the Educational Psychology Service you will be part of a team of professionals committed to advocating for children and young people and working closely with families and other agencies. SESOs work alongside our specialist teachers to enhance provision in schools for autistic pupils or those with social communication differences.

General Role Description

To complement the professional work of the ASCETS specialist teachers. This will include planning, preparing, and delivering 1:1 support sessions supporting schools with their provision for children with social communication differences or Autism. The successful candidate will need to work flexibly and with autonomy.

Building relationships, team work, maintaining records and an understanding of autism will be central to the role.

Duties and Responsibilities

Core responsibilities and duties will include:

Support for autistic individuals.

Assess the needs of individuals and use specialist knowledge and skills to support delivery and understanding whilst supporting schools, pupils and their families.

Establish productive working relationships with individuals, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.

Assist with the development of SEN Support plans.

Promote the inclusion and acceptance of all individuals within the community.

Support individuals consistently whilst recognising and responding to their individual needs.

Encourage individuals to interact and work co-operatively with others and engage all individuals in activities.

Promote independence and employ strategies to support personal goals.

Support for the Service.

Responsible for the development of resource materials to facilitate areas of work.

Liaise with local organisations and providers.

Comply and assist with the development of policies and procedures relating to child protection, health, safety, security, confidentiality and data protection, report concerns to the relevant safeguarding team.

Be aware of, and support difference and ensure all individuals have equal access to opportunities to learn and develop.

Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the Service.

In partnership with the specialist teachers, communicate with, and establish positive relationships with other agencies and professionals, to support achievement and progress of individuals.

Assist in the development of appropriate multi-agency approaches to supporting individuals.

Recognise own strengths and areas of specialist expertise and use these to lead, advise and support others.

Plan and deliver presentations and co-facilitate training.

Maintain Synergy database, with reference to confidentiality and data protection.
