We have an exciting opportunity for a Procurement Manager to join Herefordshire Council’s Commercial Services Team.
Forming part of the Corporate Services Department, the Commercial Services Team is a dynamic, multi-skilled team which provides council directorates with commercial, procurement and contract management advice and support. This permanent position is ideally suited to someone with a procurement/ commercial background who wants to advance their career in a busy and supportive workplace.
You will be responsible for managing a team of six Commercial and Procurement Officers, providing advice and assistance to Council’s departments on a wide range of issues, varying in complexity, to proactively find solutions and maximise value for money while ensuring compliance with relevant legislation. The role involves supporting the Commercial Services Manager in planning, organizing, managing, and delivering the commercial and procurement service to drive efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness, while promoting a value-for-money culture.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership, management, coaching, and mentoring skills to develop the team and foster excellent procurement practices within the public sector. You should possess excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, refined analytical and problem-solving abilities, and a positive, proactive attitude. Deputising for the Commercial Services Manager as required will also be part of your responsibilities.
Experience leading on complex procurement projects across various service areas, including construction and social care, is essential. You must have worked at a senior level within a commercial and procurement team and demonstrated achievements in a public sector environment. Qualification-wise, a CIPS level 6 (or actively working towards it), a degree, or equivalent experience is required.
