Job Summary
Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust seeks a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine to replace a retiring post. The position is based at Leighton Hospital near Crewe and Nantwich.

Responsibilities
* Provide anaesthesia for elective and emergency cases including paediatrics, obstetrics, orthopaedics and general surgery.
* Lead and contribute to the Trust’s Acute and Chronic Pain Service (inpatient, outpatient clinics and procedure lists).
* Support all aspects of department activities and wider Trust initiatives.
Qualifications
Essential
* Full registration with the GMC and a Licence to Practise.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (or proposed CCT within 6 months of interview), CESR or European Community Rights.
* FRCA or equivalent diploma.
* Substantial and relevant experience in anaesthesia.
* Minimum one year of NHS experience.
* Advanced training in chronic pain medicine.
* Higher training in general, urological, gynaecological, day‑case, orthopaedic, regional, paediatric, obstetric, head and neck, maxillofacial, dental surgery and trauma/stabilisation.
Desirable
* Additional degree or post‑graduate qualification (e.g. MRCP, MD).
* Post‑graduate prizes.
* FFPMRCA.
* ATLS (or equivalent).
* Relevant medical experience outside anaesthesia.
* 6 months training in paediatric anaesthesia with at least 3 months at a tertiary centre.
* Evidence of anaesthesia for the high‑risk patient.
Teaching & Experience
Essential
* Accreditation as a Consultant Clinical Supervisor for GMC trainee doctors.
* Active participation in teaching and training of medical and paramedical colleagues.
* Commitment to continuing medical education.
Desirable
* Accreditation as a Consultant Educational Supervisor for GMC trainee doctors.
* Extensive formal experience in medical education, including regional teaching.
* Life‑support course instructor.
Clinical Governance
Essential
* Active engagement with clinical audit.
* Evidence of reflective practice.
Desirable
* Evidence of implementing change to improve patient care.
* Significant involvement in clinical research.
* Presentations at regional and national meetings.
* Publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
Personal Attributes

* Good organisational skills, commitment to team working, leadership qualities, good interpersonal skills, excellent written and spoken English, industry and enthusiasm, flexibility in a changing work environment.

* Experience of administration within an anaesthetic department, either in training or staff allocation.
