The Lead for Nursing & Midwifery Workforce Utilisation and Safe Staffing at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust plays a vital role in supporting the effective deployment and sustainability of the nursing and midwifery workforce across the organisation. Under the leadership of the Head of Nursing for Workforce and Education, the post holder is responsible for implementing and maintaining workforce systems such as HealthRoster and SafeCare, ensuring safe staffing in line with national standards. The role involves analysing workforce data, supporting operational planning and leading strategic workforce initiatives. The post also provides expert guidance and fosters collaboration across clinical groups to enhance workforce utilisation and patient care.

Main duties of the job
Lead on the implementation, education, support, and maintenance of the HealthRoster and SafeCare systems across the Trust.
Conduct and support bi-annual Safer Nursing Care Tool (SNCT) audits and establishment reviews, to ensure safe, effective, and sustainable staffing levels.
Work with the Workforce Intelligence Team to report and analyse nursing and midwifery data, including acuity, dependency, CHPPD (Care Hours Per Patient Day), and red flag alerts, informing strategic and operational decisions.
Work alongside Recruitment and Retention leads to roll out self-rostering and contribute to various Trust-wide workforce initiatives.
Review workforce utilisation performance, escalate concerns, and lead on the development of monitoring tools and remedial actions.
Provide leadership within the Workforce Team, manage direct reports with the E-Roster Team and contribute to staff development.
Develop and lead policies on workforce utilisation and safe staffing, ensuring compliance with governance and risk management protocols.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
1. First level registered Nurse or Midwife ( or relevant registered professional)
2. Demonstrable, successful experience in Workforce Utilisation and Safe staffing for clinical environments providing innovative solutions
Desirable criteria
3. Relevant Masters/MBA qualification or equivalent experience
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
4. Demonstrable experience in leading and delivering change and performance, by engaging teams in strategic direction and delivery plans, establishing clear work priorities with them, delegating effectively, ensuring a capability to deliver, and monitoring performance and giving feedback
5. Able to think and plan strategically, tactically, and creatively, and to prioritise work programmes in the face of competing demands
6. Experience of using workforce metrics, including acuity and dependency monitoring
7. Experience of analysing complex data and or national guidance and being able to interpret and apply it locally
8. A strong sense of personal and team accountabilty coupled to a clear understanding of the boundaries around delegated authority
9. Strong and effective listening skills; high level of work organisation, self motivation, drive for performance and improvement, flexibility in approach and attitude
