CYP Mental Health Liaison Support Worker

The CYP Mental Health Liaison team are an additional service within the CYP Urgent Care teams and work closely with the CAMHS Crisis and enhanced treatment service (CCETT) and the CYP Eating Disorder Service. The role is to support children and young people (CYP) accessing our medical areas at the hospital, including A&E, paediatrics, and the hospital wards at Lincoln County Hospital (LCH) and Pilgrim Hospital Boston (PHB), with a priority of timely face‑to‑face assessments and support for CYP admitted to a ward with a mental health need. We are also building links with ULHT teams to improve joint working and mental health training for their staff.

Shifts are 08:00 am–08:00 pm. You will work closely with other CYP Urgent Care services to provide care and support to CYP in ULHT, implement care plans and support treatment packages. An interest in working with CYP with eating difficulties is essential and training will be provided post‑start. You will also support the Band 6 Practitioners with responding to referrals and supporting assessments.

This is a 12‑month fixed‑term contract.

Main duties of the job

* Work within the policies, protocols and clinical procedures of Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and promote competent working practice within an integrated multi‑disciplinary team.
* Coordinate with registered practitioners and carry out assigned duties as a member of the multi‑disciplinary mental health team.
* Work on own initiative as necessary and report to the team.
* Promote equality for all patients, understand their health needs and carry out physical health checks when necessary.
* Demonstrate an awareness of service user and carer perspectives on the provision of treatment and continuing care.
* Ensure accurate record keeping in accordance with Trust policy.
* Participate regularly in management and clinical supervision sessions.
* Liaise with representatives from associated voluntary and statutory organisations and facilitate good communication processes.
* Work with service users to promote independence, maximising daily living skills.
* Act in a manner that promotes and safeguards the interests and well‑being of patients.
* Actively promote a responsible caring attitude at all times, treating all patients with dignity and respect.
* Report any incident that does not comply with Trust policy regarding incident reporting.
* Work flexibly within the CAMHS MH liaison team and CCETT service.
* Work across LPFT and ULHT hospital wards to promote MH education.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Cavendish Care Certificate or willingness to work towards one resourced by LPFT
* NVQ 3 in Care or equivalent
* Training in mental health awareness or any other training relevant to this post


Experience

* Previous relevant experience working with people with mental health problems at a nursing assistant grade or equivalent within a health and social care setting
* Knowledge of risk assessment principles
* Experience in providing support for people in the community or inpatient with mental health needs
* Experience in providing support for children and young people
* Experience of working with people with mental health needs in a crisis


Skills

* Effective communication with service users, other members of the team and outside agencies
* A patient and empathic approach
* Clear and accurate clinical note keeping with IT skills
* Ability to respond to risk and crisis with a calm approach
