The post is a community consultant post in General Adult Psychiatry to join the East Staffs Integrated Mental Health Team (IMHT). The role also involves providing clinical leadership to the team as part of a collective leadership structure, and providing support and supervision to the Advanced Nurse Practitioner and Non-Medical Prescribers. The post holder will supervise a trainee attached to the team, subject to trainee availability, and will have opportunities to participate in postgraduate and undergraduate education for Junior Doctors and medical students from Keele Medical School. This post covers the East Staffs IMHT, comprising one Primary Care Network (PCN) based in East Staffs, with a population of 134,749. The Consultant Psychiatrist will offer assessment and treatment to adults of working age with a range of mental health problems and will hold a caseload of approximately 100–150.

The Consultant will hold a caseload of approximately 100–150, many of which will have other clinicians in the IMHT working with them. This is part of a functionalised model in which patients requiring inpatient care, crisis or home treatment have their care temporarily transferred to the relevant pathway. The Consultant therefore has no clinical remit outside of the IMHT.

Working in a multidisciplinary team and in partnership with voluntary care sector organisations and acute care settings, the Consultant will (list responsibilities below).


Responsibilities

* Ensure, in conjunction with the multidisciplinary team, regular effective review of the care of patients in the clinical pathway – via individual assessments and follow‑up appointments, risk assessments, safeguarding needs and MDT meetings.
* Serve as the responsible clinician for service users in the pathway who are subject to Community Treatment Orders (CTOs) where applicable.
* Provide evidence‑based care and adopt a recovery‑focused approach.
* Provide cross‑cover (emergency and prospective) for other Consultant Psychiatrist colleagues by mutual agreement.
* Communicate with all key partners in an appropriate and timely way, including service users, carers and General Practitioners.
* Work within the requirements of service contracts, including compliance with nationally agreed quality standards.
* Fully utilise Trust IT systems, including electronic prescribing, to fulfil clinical duties.
* Participate in out‑of‑hours duties; on‑call work is remunerated at 3 % availability supplement and 0.25 APA.
* Take part in an approx. 1:23 on‑call rota for Staffordshire, covering both adult and older‑adult psychiatry on the St George’s site and community cover for emergencies across South Staffordshire.
