Horton Lodge Special School – Health and Welfare Support Assistant (HSWA)
Horton Lodge Special School is seeking an enthusiastic Health and Welfare Support Assistant to join our team from 1st June 2026. This rewarding role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people with additional and complex needs by supporting their health, wellbeing and full participation in school life.
The role operates under the direction of teaching and health professionals. You will provide both clinical and non‑clinical support to pupils, ensuring they are safe, healthy and able to access learning and wider school activities. Responsibilities include providing personal care, medical needs and physical management in line with individual care plans.
Working hours: Monday to Friday, 09:15–14:45.
Key Responsibilities
* Support pupils with personal care, health, welfare and first aid needs.
* Carry out delegated clinical interventions (e.g., administering medication, enteral feeding) following training and competency assessment.
* Support pupils’ physical management, including safe manual handling and toileting care.
* Assist with therapy programmes as directed by professionals.
* Escort pupils around school and support inclusion in lessons and activities.
* Support pupils on educational visits and off‑site activities.
* Promote positive behaviour and encourage social interaction.
* Prepare learning environments and undertake routine administrative tasks.
* Liaise appropriately with parents, carers and professionals.
* Promote safeguarding, equality, health and safety, and the overall ethos of the school.
