Oracle DBA (Support / Data Migration)
Location: Largely remote (UK-based) with onsite attendance 2 days every month (typically Guildford or Central London). Occasional travel to MOD site in Bristol may be required.
Contract: Long-term programme (multi-year delivery) bu initially 3 months
Start: ASAP
Security Clearance: You must hold active SC Clearance to be eligible for this role.
Rate: Up to £500 per day on an Inside IR35 basis
The Opportunity
We are recruiting an experienced Oracle DBA to support a major, multi-year MOD information and knowledge management programme. The programme is focused on migrating several disparate legacy systems onto a MOD-hosted enterprise Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solution and has already delivered an initial MVP.
You will be embedded client-side within the MOD project delivery team, providing specialist Oracle database administration expertise across a complex and evolving technical landscape. This role offers the opportunity to work on a high-profile military programme with long-term delivery scope and genuine technical ownership.
The Role
As an Oracle DBA, you will be responsible for ensuring a robust, efficient, and healthy Oracle database environment across multiple project environments. You will provide hands-on administration, technical guidance, and proactive recommendations to support system stability, performance, and data migration activity.
Candidates who can also contribute to data migration and ETL activities will be particularly well suited to this role.
Key responsibilities include:
Designing, implementing, and documenting Oracle monitoring processes, including:
Tablespaces
Backups
Archive log space
Alert logs
Implementing processes to ensure Oracle VM FRA disks do not run out of space
Analysing Oracle environments to ensure consistent configuration (archive logs, tablespaces, RAM, SGA/PGA, etc.)
Configuring Oracle environments to utilise maximum available RAM on host VMs
Setting up and managing Oracle RMAN
Highlighting opportunities where Oracle technologies can support data migration activities
Working closely with the Data Migration Lead and Scrum teams to deliver project objectives
The Person
You will be a proactive and technically confident Oracle DBA who enjoys working as part of a collaborative delivery team. You'll be comfortable operating within Agile/Scrum environments and communicating clearly with technical stakeholders across the programme.
Essential skills & experience:
Strong commercial experience in Oracle Database Administration
Proven ability to support and maintain production Oracle environments
Experience working within structured project delivery teams
Ability to take ownership of tasks and deliver to direction from technical leads
Existing Security Clearance - SC
Desirable (not essential):
Experience with data migration and ETL activities
Exposure to Microsoft Azure infrastructure
SQL Server administration experience
Knowledge of military or MOD environments and infrastructure
