A charming Grade II listed day nursery in Liverpool is looking for a practical, reliable and proactive Grounds Maintenance Person to help keep their buildings and outdoor areas in excellent condition.
What will you be doing
General Maintenance:
* Perform minor repairs and maintenance throughout the nursery e.g. painting, minor carpentry, furniture repairs, lighting, and equipment as required
* Conduct routine inspections to ensure buildings and outdoor areas remain safe and in top condition, addressing any hazards promptly
* Report significant maintenance needs to the Nursery Manager
* Liaise with any external contractors required to undertake specialised work
* Develop an ongoing schedule of refurbishment in order to maintain premises in top condition.
Grounds Maintenance:
* Carry out basic groundskeeping tasks such as lawn mowing, trimming bushes, raking leaves, and clearing pathways
* Maintain outdoor equipment and ensure the exterior is tidy and inviting.
* To ensure reasonable precautions are taken in adverse weather conditions to secure a safe environment e.g. salting paths in icy conditions
* Support nursery staff to deliver outdoor areas that enhance the curriculum e.g. growing areas.
Safety and Compliance:
* Alongside the nursery manager, ensure the buildings and grounds are health & safety compliant
* Undertake weekly fire alarm testing and maintain records
* Support the manager in ensuring all appropriate risk assessments are in place for buildings and grounds
* Maintain accurate records of maintenance and groundskeeping tasks, promptly reporting any safety or hygiene concerns.
Cleaning and Sanitation:
* Liaise with our contract cleaners to ensure standards of cleanliness are high in all areas
* Carry out cleaning tasks not covered by the contract cleaners such as: checking toilets throughout the day and cleaning up spills as they occur, and internal window cleaning
* Disinfect high-touch surfaces and children's activity areas to maintain hygiene as required
* Manage a fortnightly rotation of toy and resource cleaning, ensuring they are thoroughly disinfected and records kept
* Empty bins and ensure proper waste disposal
* Ensure all cleaning products and supplies are kept within the housekeeping area, locked and away from children.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
* Is confident with a wide range of DIY and repair tasks
* Has a basic health and safety qualification
* Holds a valid UK driving license
* Has the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull moderate weights, perform manual labour, and stand for extended periods.
* Is dependable, proactive, detail-oriented
* Has a positive attitude and ability to work both independently and as part of a team
* Preferably has experience within a childcare or educational setting.
