An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Burns Unit for a motivated Band 5 Staff Nurse with an interest in burns specialist nursing. Previous acute experience as a student nurse or newly qualified would be desirable. You would be part of the Multidisciplinary Team to ensure our inpatients/outpatients receive the quality care that is essential to meet their holistic needs. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to enable you to work effectively within a challenging environment.
The Burns Unit is part of the South East of England Burns Network and has 6 adult In-patient beds we also have a burns outpatient facility which is run by the burns nursing team .We provide burns care for several counties within our catchment’s area.
Psychology, Social Work and Burns Outreach support are many of the services that we can offer our patients and their relatives and is immensely beneficial especially with discharge planning
The burns unit has developed considerable over the last few years enabling us to provide and ensure the quality of patient care that we deliver meets the burns care standards also with the trusts guidance. We are a motivated and proactive team and accept the challenges that are still to come for our burns service and would like you to join us.

Main duties of the job
-The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development and/or implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
-Is expected to manage a caseload of patients on the ward environment or Burns Unit.
-Has knowledge about different wound dressings and able to perform dressings changes.
-Able to assess wounds and identify any signs of infection.
-Is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care maintaining a high standard of nursing care within the framework of Trust Policies.
-Is expected to supervise junior qualified staff
-Is able and expected to teach qualified and unqualified staff.

Essential criteria
1. Good verbal and written communication skills and ability to negotiate
2. Ability to manage and prioritise own caseload with supervision
3. Willingness to develop teaching skills

6. Willingness to undergo training (e.g. medications)
7. Basic IT skills
8. Awareness of the NHSE guidance of clinical governance in order to continuously improve quality of care e.g. quality, safety and ward audit standards
9. Knowledge of the NMC code of conduct
10. Knowledge of care planning, preceptorship, reflection and clinical supervision
11. Ability to maintain a safe clinical environment conducive to patient care Adaptable to change

Experience

20. Registered Nurse/Awaiting NMC PIN

23. Hold / be working towards an NMC approved mentoring qualification
