Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Manager to join our Regional Civils business, supporting a growing portfolio of civil engineering projects across Scotland.
Our work spans projects within the Scottish Government Infrastructure Investment Pipeline, local authority infrastructure, and the civils elements of energy network new builds and enhancements.
The Role
As Senior Design Manager, you will work closely with office‑based work winning teams and site‑based project teams, leading and managing the design process to ensure design, procurement (including specialist packages), and delivery meet project requirements, budgets, and agreed timescales.
What you’ll be doing
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and implementation of design proposals, ensuring alignment with client requirements, programme, and budget.
* Provide expert advice on buildability to both design and construction teams across all packages.
* Manage and maintain the design deliverables programme throughout the project lifecycle.
* Liaise with statutory bodies and authorities including planning, building control, and utilities providers.
* Work closely with BIM teams during bid and construction stages, ensuring supply chain compliance with BIM requirements.
* Apply Lean construction principles to reduce waste, drive efficiencies, and optimise value.
* Actively contribute to risk management and value engineering processes.

* Relevant professional membership with an appropriate institution (desirable).
* Valid CSCS card.
