Overview

We are looking to recruit enthusiastic and dynamic consultants with a special interest in Intensive Care Medicine and an associated speciality in Anaesthetics, Emergency Medicine or any other compatible Medical base specialty, to join our progressive team of intensivists, and allied professionals.

The Trust has close clinical and academic ties with local medical schools, and will be actively involved in the new Kent medical school. Successful applicants will be able to participate in teaching both under and postgraduate students associated with these Universities.

Job responsibilities

* Provide a high standard of care to any patient for whom you have clinical responsibility, including patients referred to you and those cared for by your team.
* Participate in clinical and service activities and developments to ensure a high standard of patient care across the Trust.
* Collaborate with other medical, professional and managerial colleagues within and outside the specialty to deliver high quality health care and contribute to the Trust’s strategic direction.


About us

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital trust in the South East of England. The Trust provides general hospital services to a population of approximately 760,000 in South West Kent and North East Sussex, and some specialist cancer services to around 2 million people in Kent, Medway and East Sussex.

Two major hospitals are Maidstone Hospital and Tunbridge Wells Hospital; Fordcombe Hospital provides NHS and private services. The Trust’s headquarters are at Maidstone Hospital.


Responsibilities and opportunities

* Join a team of 15 Critical Care Consultants across two units with excellent ICNARC outcomes and a strong evidence-based practice, education and training focus.
* Opportunities to develop personal interests including echocardiography, research, governance, outreach and ICU follow-up.


Person Specification


Qualifications - Essential

* MB BS (or equivalent)
* Registered with GMC
* On the Specialist Register, or within 6 months of acquiring CCT
* Must have completed intermediate or Step 1 training in ICM or equivalent and be eligible for Associate Fellowship FICM


Qualifications - Desirable

* FRCA or equivalent, or a second registered specialty to complement Trust requirements
* CCT in ICM as described by the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine (or evidence of equivalent levels of experience/training)
* FFICM examination or other higher professional qualification
* ALS/APLS/ATLS or NLS provider or instructor


Research

* Essential: understanding of general principles, scientific method and interpretation of literature
* Desirable: evidence of personal research projects and their presentation; publications in peer-reviewed journals


Audit

* Essential: understand the principles of audit; evidence of participation and completion of audit projects particularly relating to ICU
* Desirable: completed the audit loop in a number of audits


Personal skills

* Essential: evidence of good communication skills
* Desirable: postgraduate communication skills course


Management

* Essential: evidence of organisational ability
* Desirable: attended an NHS management course appropriate to Consultant duties


Other requirements

* Clear, concise and well-presented CV
* Interest in teaching and education
* Driving licence
