Job summary
Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (STH), Cardiothoracic Directorate, invites applications for the position of Deputy Chief Perfusionist. The Directorate provides a range of complex tertiary services; the cardiac team undertakes over 900 adult cardiac procedures within five cardiac theatres. Paediatric services or cardiothoracic transplantation are not delivered.
You will have a track record in delivering high quality perfusion services, with an interest in innovation in the field of perfusion. Accreditation by the Society of Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland and registration with the College of Clinical Perfusionists of Great Britain & Ireland are required.
You will be highly motivated and hardworking, with excellent leadership, communication and organisational skills, demonstrable experience of effective team management and service planning, and a commitment to professional development both personally and for the team.
To provide leadership and act for the Chief Perfusionist in their absence, guiding both perfusion and CSCP teams at The Northern General Hospital. Maintain and develop the above services whilst continuing to excel in your clinical field.
Main duties of the job
* The provision of strong leadership, effective management and professional advice to enable high quality patient-centred services.
* The delivery of a safe, efficient and reliable perfusion and Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) services in partnership with the lead surgeon and anaesthetist.
* The continued development of perfusion and SCP services, in partnership with surgeons and anaesthetists.
* Deputising for the Chief Perfusionist in managing a team of 8 Perfusionists, 6 Surgical Care Practitioners, supported by the Nurse Director.
* Leading by example as an expert and autonomous practitioner, while providing organisational leadership and clinical/professional perfusion services to the multidisciplinary team.
* Organising facilities and staff to enable the directorate to meet its contractual and professional targets.
* Dividing time between clinical and managerial responsibilities as required, aiming for approximately 70% clinical / 30% managerial duties.
* Carrying out various managerial duties and full participation in the department on-call rota.

Qualifications
Essential
* Postgraduate Diploma / BSc / MSc in Perfusion Science or equivalent.
* Accredited by Society Of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland.
* Registered with College of Clinical Perfusion Scientists of Great Britain and Ireland.
* Proven leadership skills.
Desirable
* Further education and post-qualification development.
Experience
Essential
* Extensive experience as a senior clinical Perfusionist.
* Extensive post-registration experience in a relevant multi-professional environment.
* Extensive working knowledge of routine and specialised clinical techniques.
* Supervision of Trainees.
* Evidence of taking responsibility for own and others’ actions.
Desirable
* Experience of presenting at MDT, M&M and audit meetings.
* Experience of project management.
* Experience of line managing staff.
