About the Role
The CAD Designer is responsible for creating and maintaining 2D and 3D drawings for steel doors, frames, and assemblies. The role requires working closely with R&D, production, and sales teams to ensure designs are technically accurate, compliant with relevant standards, and suitable for manufacture. Understanding the certified specifications is important to ensure the doors conform to standards.
Responsibilities
* Produce accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings for steel doors, frames, and assemblies.
* Interpret customer and sales team briefs into detailed technical drawings.
* Work with R&D and Estimating to ensure manufacturability and cost‑effectiveness.
* Update and revise existing drawings as products evolve or customer changes arise.
* Apply relevant door specification knowledge, including fire ratings, security standards, hardware locations, tolerances, and compliance requirements.
* Assist in developing and improving Metador’s standard product drawing library.
* Support continuous improvement in design workflows and CAD best practices.
Qualifications
* Proficient in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor preferred, or similar).
* Strong understanding of engineering principles and technical drawing standards.
* Experience producing manufacturing drawings with precise tolerances.
* Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and customer specifications.
* Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
* Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
* Experience in door manufacturing, architectural metalwork, or building products.
* Knowledge of door hardware, ironmongery schedules, fire‑rated door requirements (FD30/FD60), PAS 24, Secured by Design, etc.
* Understanding of sheet metal fabrication processes.
Required Skills

Preferred Skills
* Experience in door manufacturing.
* Knowledge of door hardware and fire-rated door requirements.

Pay range and compensation package
Pay is £35-40k depending on experience and will rise following probation
24 days holiday rising 1 day per year for 4 years a to a maximum of 28 + 8 bank holidays ( 3 holidays reserved for Christmas shutdown)
