Job Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and caring individual to join our team, who has a desire to provide high standards of care for patients on Ward 36 at Royal Lancaster Infirmary. Ward 36 is a Trauma and Orthopaedic Ward caring for patients who are recovering from orthopaedic surgery or injuries and are dependent upon high standards of care and support to reach their full potential. Ensuring patient dignity and individual patient needs are met at all times is central to this role—and working to maintain a clean and safe ward environment.
Main Duties
* Work effectively with the multidisciplinary team to achieve desired outcomes that promote the well‑being of the patient.
* Assist RNs in the delivery of care to a designated patient group, prioritising workload appropriately.
* Assist in the implementation of direct clinical care.
* Determine patient comfort by talking and listening to them and building rapport.
* Assist in feeding patients who are unable to feed themselves and complete food charts as required.
* Ensure all care provided by yourself is documented.
* Recognise changes in patient condition.
* Support RNs in providing information and advice on health.
* Instigate emergency procedures (e.g., fire, CPR).
* Act as an effective role model for all ward staff.
* Assist in ensuring effective channels are used to canvass the views and concerns of all patients.
* Maintain high standards of cleanliness and follow all infection‑control guidelines.
* Undertake training and practice of agreed clinical competencies in basic nursing skills for designated patients.
* Keep up to date with changes in clinical practice and their effect on your role.
* Work as an effective team member of the clinical team.
* Carry out and record basic observation/test results and report changes to a Registered Nurse (RN).
About Us
We operate from three main hospitals—Furness General Hospital (FGH) in Barrow, the Royal Lancaster Infirmary (RLI), and Westmorland General Hospital (WGH) in Kendal—as well as a number of community health care premises including Millom Hospital, GP Practice, Queen Victoria Hospital in Morecambe, and Ulverston Community Health Centre. These facilities provide a range of general hospital services, emergency departments, critical/coronary care units and consultant‑led services, as well as out‑patient, diagnostic, therapy, day‑case and inpatient surgery, and community outreach services across Morecambe Bay.
Person Specification
Education
* Good general education.
* Completed Trust Support Worker Programme.
* Willingness to undertake NVQ Level 2 in a care‑related area.
Experience
* Previous experience in a care environment.
* Experience with manual handling of patients using lifting aids.
