About the role
The Infrastructure Engineering team design, develop, implement and operate all infrastructure used by Tesco Technology across our data centres, offices, stores and distribution centres. This encompasses multiple domains; private and public cloud, connectivity, end‑user computing, CI/CD and monitoring toolkit. It includes both 3rd‑party and internally developed infrastructure applications and infrastructure that support the wider Tesco business.
As part of the wider Infrastructure Team, the Networks and Security Team designs, develops, implements and operates all Network and Security infrastructure technologies that facilitate both Infrastructure and the rest of Tesco Technology.
You will be responsible for
* Managing activities of members of the systems engineering job family, building a team culture for continuous improvement and an environment where engineers want to work. Recruiting and supporting the development of staff.
* Ensuring the team exceeds required quality standards, commitments and objectives.
* Driving adoption of new tools and techniques by understanding their value and impact.
* Building a team with structure and capabilities to support incidents in live and support the relationship to Engineering.
* Keeping track of new Network technologies, understanding how they might benefit the Technology team and wider Tesco.
* Managing team performance and improving capabilities by defining training plans, objectives and providing feedback.
* Spotting talent/high performance in the team and providing timely reward and recognition.
* Managing external suppliers and measuring and improving the service provided.
* Managing stakeholder communication and escalations.
You will need

Required Experience
* 2–5 years of experience managing teams.
* Worked closely with Architecture and Operations to ensure standard documentation is completed for area of responsibility.
* Well‑organised self‑starter who takes personal ownership and accountability at required levels of the work stream and project life cycles; willing to go the extra mile at every opportunity.
* Builds and maintains positive relationships within and across teams.
* Communicates effectively, able to deliver and present both written and verbal, designs, strategies and concepts clearly.
* Take ownership to keep up to date and embrace the latest industry technologies and associated supplier solutions.
* Works to deliver the right outcomes and collaborates with appropriate stakeholders and customers, whether directly responsible for the functional delivery of a team or working across multiple teams.
* Proactively identifies risks, proposes mitigations and gets them reviewed with their manager, stakeholders and customers, knowing when to ask for help or escalated.
* Plays a key role in formulating the technical roadmap and strategy, collaborates with both internal and external stakeholders, and leads cross‑functional teams in the development of the roadmap.
Desirable Technical Experience
* Previous experience working in a DevOps environment and building teams delivering infrastructure solutions in an automated way.
* Previous experience designing solutions for large complex global organisations.
* Knowledge of load‑balancing platforms and technologies.
* Experience with firewall technologies specifically Palo Alto.
* Knowledge of cloud and security technologies particularly Zscaler.
* Splunk product knowledge.
