Financial Controller - 12 month FTC
£55,000 - £62,000 per annum
Chelmsford, Essex
Monday-Friday, 9am-5:30pm - Hybrid

Are you ready to take the reins of financial operations in a thriving law firm? My client, a successful legal practise nestled in the heart of Chelmsford, is on the lookout for a proactive and commercially minded Financial Controller to join their team on a temporary fixed-term basis. This exciting opportunity is to cover maternity leave, and it promises to be a dynamic and rewarding role!

About the Role:
As the Financial Controller, you will have hands-on involvement in all aspects of finance, from daily accounting to strategic planning. Your expertise will ensure compliance with CLC Accounts Rules while managing client funds, producing insightful financial reports, and supporting the board with key financial insights. This is a pivotal role, critical to the firm's growth and commitment to client service excellence.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee all financial activities: day-to-day accounting, financial planning, and management reporting.
Ensure compliance with CLC Accounts Rules, particularly in handling and reconciling client accounts.
Prepare monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with UK GAAP.
Produce cash flow forecasts and manage working capital to meet operational needs.
Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
Collate payroll data and coordinate with Accountants.
Manage VAT returns and corporation tax filings in line with HMRC requirements.
Collaborate with the conveyancing team for timely billing and accurate fee allocation.
Maintain and enhance internal financial controls, policies, and systems.
Provide financial insights to support pricing strategies and business decisions.
Lead, develop, and support a small finance team of three.
Contribute to strategic planning and budgeting processes.
Assist with other duties as needed.Requirements:

Full or part qualified (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA) with a minimum of 2 years' experience in a similar role.
Previous experience in a legal service firm or professional services environment is highly desirable.
Strong working knowledge of CLC requirements and handling client funds is advantageous.
Familiarity with accounting systems such as Xero and Hoowla is a plus.
Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial reporting tools.
Exceptional attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial matters to the board.
Leadership experience in managing a small finance team.
