Overview
Job summary: This is a substantive replacement Consultant Dermatologist post. We are looking for an enthusiastic, innovative consultant to become a core member of our friendly, supportive Dermatology Department at Beckenham Beacon. Beckenham is a pleasant suburb in the London Borough of Bromley, with excellent transport links to central London (25 mins) and surrounding areas. There are high quality schools nearby, including state grammar schools.
We provide a very high-quality multidisciplinary dermatology service, with high levels of patient satisfaction. We offer services in general dermatology (including biologics), skin cancer, paediatric dermatology, skin surgery, phototherapy, PDT and iontophoresis.
The post holder will join a team of five Dermatology Consultants (3.6 WTE), two Specialty Doctors, a Clinical Fellow and Clinical Nurse Specialists working across the South Sites (Beckenham Beacon, The Princess Royal University Hospital & Orpington Hospital).
The post is based at Beckenham Beacon. The post holder will also cover acute dermatology at Princess Royal University & Orpington Hospitals. Timetables may change to offer clinics at alternative sites within the trust according to departmental requirements.

Responsibilities
* Together with other colleagues, provide a high-quality care service to patients, including all aspects of treatment and relevant management duties for the proper functioning of the Care Group
* Shared responsibility with other colleagues for providing 24 hours, 7 days a week cover for the Unit on a rota basis; cover colleagues' periods of annual leave and short-term sickness as detailed in your contract
* Provide clinical supervision of junior medical/dental practitioners as a shared responsibility with other consultant colleagues
* Carry out teaching, examination and accreditation duties as required and contribute to CPD and clinical governance initiatives
* Outpatient clinic commitments in peripheral hospitals as agreed with the Care Groups management team where part of the service structure
* Contribute to the Care Groups research interests in accordance with the Trust's R&D framework
* Contribute to audit programmes, Morbidity and Mortality, Clinical Governance programmes and Learning from Deaths
* Take an active role in the formulation, implementation and monitoring of the Care Groups Business Plan; assist with discussions regarding service plans and developments with internal and external agencies
* Conduct all activities within the contracted level of service and operating plan for service(s)
* Exercise professional leadership for all staff working in the specialty; foster and develop projects and maintain post-qualification professional education and training
* Work with clinical and other professional colleagues to maintain productivity and staff job satisfaction; participate in appraisal processes as appropriate
* Undertake Care Group management duties as agreed with the Care Group/Departmental Manager/Clinical Director
* Be aware of and comply with all Trust infection prevention and control policies, including hand hygiene, personal hygiene, environmental and food hygiene
* Prepare for and undertake protective interventions in line with evidence-based practice and patient safety

Person Specification
Qualifications & Higher Education
* Essential: Registerable medical qualification
* Essential: Full MRCP
* Desirable: Other higher degree or diploma (e.g., MD)
Registration
* Essential: Full Registration with GMC
* Essential: Name on GMC Dermatology Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment
* Essential: Applicants must be within 6 months of CCT or must have fully completed CESR application and be fully registered on the GMC Dermatology Specialist Register. Any applications not meeting these criteria will not be considered
Training and Experience
* Essential: Completion of specialist training programme in Dermatology
* Essential: Wide experience in all aspects of Dermatology, culminating in award of Certificate of Completion of Training by GMC, or CESR
* Desirable: Dermatology Subspecialty Interest
Administration
* Essential: Experience in day-to-day organisation of Dermatology services in a busy Teaching Hospital
* Desirable: Familiar with UK NHS structure and recent initiatives
Management and Leadership
* Essential: Ability to demonstrate leadership within multi-disciplinary teams
* Desirable: Management course and/or qualification
Audit, Research and Publications
* Essential: Thorough understanding of medical audit; experience of audit projects
* Essential: Experience of clinical research
* Essential: Publication of relevant reviews or case reports
