Lead Vascular Scientist / Sonographer – Annex 21

Act as the specialist for the Vascular lead speciality within CWM UHB, working with Radiologists to identify and lead the implementation of new or best practice.
Develop the CTMUHB Vascular Ultrasound (US) service to ensure compliance with national and CTMUHB policies and strategies, and relevant legislation. This includes setting and auditing standards and agreeing and implementing standard operating procedures across CTMUHB, overseen by the Clinical Director and Professional Head of Radiography.
The post holder will also have overall responsibility for the management of the Vascular US service, including the service budget and delivery of local access and activity targets and local clinical governance.
The post holder will be a senior member of staff within Radiology and will contribute to the success of the US service as a whole, undertaking CTMUHB‑wide activities as required.
Post is offered to fully qualified candidates or those meeting the following criteria: final‑year STP students or individuals training towards the SVT accreditation, with progression onto the substantive post upon HCPC registration or SVT AVS accreditation.
Main duties of the job
* Lead the Vascular Ultrasound service within Radiology CTMUHB.
* Oversee sonographer training across our three acute sites.
* Ensure the service is safe, efficient, cost‑effective and meets the needs of the wider Health Board and the local population, including achieving operational performance targets, governance standards, staff competence, access, activity and finance targets.
Welsh language skills
Welsh Skills Desirable: Welsh language speaking and listening skills at Level 3 (CEFR B2) or above are desirable but not essential; they will be considered an advantage when short‑listing and selecting candidates.
Job responsibilities
* Complete up to a 24‑month training/development programme upon commencement if appointed under Annex 21, with a requirement to achieve the identified professional qualification and relevant competencies.
* Salary paid in accordance with Annex 21: 70% of the top of Band 8a for months 1‑12, 75% for months 13‑24; upon successful attainment of the qualification, automatically move to the bottom of Band 8a pay scale.
* Ensure continuity of pay for staff applying from within NHS Wales to avoid financial detriment during the training period.

* Professional registration (e.g., HCPC).
* Evidence of training/audit.
* Previous management experience.
* Welsh language skills (Level 3/B2) desirable.

Salary
£58,379 to £65,723 per annum (Annex 21).
