Due to internal progression, we have several exciting opportunities to join our busy and supportive Financial Operations Team. We're looking for an
Accounting Technician (Band C/D)
within our Insurance team and Resources directorate and
Senior Accounting Technicians (Band D)
within our Adult Social Care and Economy and Infrastructure (E&I) directorates. Candidates may apply at either level based on their skills, experience and qualifications.
About The Roles
As part of the Financial Operations Team, you will play a key role in delivering high‑quality financial, technical and administrative support to our service areas. Working with colleagues, budget managers and stakeholders across the Council, you will:
* Produce accurate, timely financial information and analysis
* Support budget setting, monitoring and year‑end processes
* Use financial systems such as Oracle to analyse, reconcile and maintain data
* Prepare and review spreadsheets, including complex Excel workbooks
* Provide professional financial advice, guidance and customer service
* Contribute to improving financial processes and controls
* Handle financial information with accuracy, confidentiality and care
At
Band D
, you will take on more advanced responsibilities such as preparing grant claims, supporting senior budget managers, and providing technical, advisory or supervisory support to colleagues.
About You
We're looking for someone who is enthusiastic, proactive and committed to delivering excellent financial services.
Band C applicants will need:
* 5 GCSEs (A*–C / 4–9), including Maths and English
* AAT Level 2 (or equivalent) or part-qualified AAT
* Strong numeracy and IT skills, including Excel
* Experience working with financial data, systems or administrative processes
* Good organisational and communication skills
Band D applicants will need:
* Full AAT qualification / MAAT membership (or equivalent)
* Experience in advanced Excel and complex financial analysis
* Broader knowledge of accounting principles
* Experience supporting budget management, forecasting and/or year‑end
* Ability to provide technical advice, make evidence‑based decisions and work with minimal supervision

Which team is right for you?
E&I -
The E&I finance team role provides support across a diverse range of Council service areas which include Environmental Services, Highways, Customer Services, Regulatory Services, Stronger Communities, Housing, Arts, Libraries, Planning and Economic Development. The team has a matrix management approach allowing team members to support a variety of different services and budget holders.
Insurance -
The finance technician will play an important role in supporting the Insurance team by undertaking the majority of the financial elements of the Insurance function. Experience of Insurance is not necessary as the role-holder will be undertaking financial processes that would be common in any area of business in the Council and will learn any specifics to Insurance on the job. The role holder will use the Councils finance system Oracle as well as the Insurance system Evo on a day to day basis to input, process and analyse financial data.
Resources -
The Resources finance team supports a range of support services such as HR, Finance, ICT and others. We are looking for someone who is at the beginning of their AAT qualification and wants to develop their skills while gaining practical work experience. The role will support key transactional processes, including internal recharges. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build experience that complements their AAT studies, with appropriate support provided as they progress
Adults -
Working within the Adult Social Care (ASC) Finance Team offers the chance to support one of the most critical and high profile service areas in the Council. As the highest expenditure area within the local authority, the work is fast paced, varied, and focused on ensuring strong financial stewardship across care commissioning, payments, direct payments, and wider statutory responsibilities. We are looking for a proactive and motivated AAT qualified candidate who can contribute to a collaborative team environment and help us deliver timely, accurate and meaningful financial support to the Directorate.
