Medical typist for Colorectal and General Surgery

Here and Mis and South Essex Foundation Trust we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our expanding team in General Surgery.
As a Medical Typist, you are responsible for checking and typing letters for our clinical teams.
Liaise with Medical Secretaries to inform them of any actions on patients pathway (ie. outstanding appointments, investigation requests supporting patient care and achieving waiting time targets).
Ensure all correspondences are dispatched promptly to patients, GP’s and other health care providers as required within agreed timeframes.
Be responsible for typing reports (ensuring that any outstanding appointments or tests are escalated to the relevant Medical Secretary for action).
Maintain a good working relationship with Medical Secretaries, liaising and raising issues as necessary to ensure effective management within the 18‑week standard and cancer pathways.

Main duties of the job
Audio typing of clinical letters, operation notes and discharge summaries as directed by the Junior Service Manager to meet divisional specific KPI in relation to turnaround targets, ensuring a high standard of accuracy and quality.
Provide a high‑quality clinical typing service to a team of consultants supporting the Divisional Patient Pathway Coordinators.
Be responsible for typing clinic letters, reports and other clinical correspondence in line with the Trusts contractual KPIs.
Follow standard operating procedures, which describe how the functions of the role will be carried out along with given timescales and key performance indicators.
Work as part of a team, providing cover for colleagues during sickness and annual leave where appropriate; this may include providing typing support in other departments.
You will need fast and accurate audio typing skills and a sound knowledge of medical terminology.
Checking of letters via the new DIT3 system.
Any other duties within the role of a Medical Typist and within the grade of your post.
Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent in English and Maths
* RSA/OCR typing/text transcription stage II or equivalent experience
* Knowledge of medical terminology

* Experience working with IT office packages
* Previous clerical and/or secretarial experience in a hospital environment
