Our client is a growing manufacturer / retailer based in Harlow. They are seeking an interim Head of Finance / Financial Controller to lead the finance function, drive financial performance, and support strategic decision-making. This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for all aspects of financial control and reporting. This role is based on site 5 days per week, they have flexible working hours, onsite parking and a great team culture. This is an initial 3-6 month contract to support a period of growth and change for the business. Key Responsibilities Financial Reporting & Control Oversee the production of accurate and timely monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cashflow statements. Manage all month-end processes, including reconciliations, schedules, journals, and reporting packs. Maintain and develop robust financial controls to ensure compliance and integrity of financial data. Audit & Compliance Lead the preparation for annual audit and liaise with external auditors. Ensure compliance with all statutory obligations, including VAT returns, tax filings, and financial regulations. Ensure internal controls and financial policies are in line with best practice. Cashflow & Forecasting Produce regular cashflow forecasts to support operational decision-making and investment planning. Monitor working capital, including inventory, debtors, and creditors, to optimize liquidity. Provide clear, forward-looking financial insights to senior management. Strategic Finance & Business Partnering Work closely with operational teams to provide financial support and challenge. Drive improvements in financial processes, systems, and reporting. Support budgeting, forecasting, and business planning activities. Leadership & Team Development Manage and mentor the finance team, fostering a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement. Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure finance is a true business partner. Skills & Experience Required Fully qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or equivalent). Strong experience in management accounts, balance sheet and cashflow management. Proven ability to lead audits, manage month-end close, and deliver accurate reporting. Experience with VAT and statutory compliance. Previous experience in a manufacturing or product-based business is highly desirable. Strong commercial acumen and ability to “take things forward” with minimal supervision. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Proficiency in accounting systems and Excel.
